Vaginal pessaries had been introduced long ago as a conservative treatment of gynecological diseases combined with weakening of connective or muscular tissue oft he pelvic floor leading to prolapse and incontinence. More recently, pessaries are also used to treat cervical shortening or incompetence in pregnant women at risk for preterm birth.

In former times, the material used for pessaries was glass, porcelain, clay or rubber. Today they usually consist of non-allergic medical silicone.

The success of any therapy depends on the selection of the right type and size of pessary, experience in insertion, support and removal. Some pessaries should stay in place for a longer time and are usual changed by the medical care providers, some should be changed by the patient every night or be used only when she needs it. For each pessary there are more detailed instructions as a leaflet or on the home page how to use them.

Pessaries may be regarded as an alternative to more invasive procedures. All our pessaries are certified according to DIN EN ISO 13485. In other countries our partners have registered the trade according to local legislation.
The most frequent indications for the use of pessaries are female genital prolapse with or without incontinence. Some pessaries help to cope with special anatomical problems.
Increasingly, our cerclage pessaries are used to prevent preterm birth in singleton or multiple gestation mainly in patients with early signs of cervical shortening.
